Anthropic Pursues $6 Billion Decart Deal to Cut AI Costs

Anthropic is in talks to acquire Decart AI, a startup that makes chips work more efficiently to reduce the cost of training and operating artificial intelligence, for $6 billion, Bloomberg reported Thursday (Aug. 13), citing unnamed sources.

The deal would be Anthropic’s largest known acquisition and would help the company’s computing infrastructure keep up with the surging adoption of the firm’s software, according to the report.

Decart also builds world models that are designed to simulate the physical world and help businesses with applications such as autonomous driving and eCommerce. In eCommerce applications, the company’s Lucy AI model is used to enable customers to virtually try on apparel and accessories, per the report.

The talks on a potential acquisition are ongoing, and the deal could fall through, the report said.

Neither Anthropic nor Decart immediately replied to PYMNTS’ request for comment.

Decart emerged from stealth with $21 million in seed funding in October 2024, describing itself as “an efficiency-focused AI research lab.”

Decart then raised $32 million in a Series A round announced in December 2024, and $300 million in a Series B round announced in May.

When announcing its Series B in May, Decart described its product lines as DOS, an inference and training stack that enables agents and reasoning models to run smarter and faster; Lucy, a world model for immersive experiences; and Oasis, a world model for physical AI.

Decart CEO and Co-Founder Dean Leitersdorf said in a May press release that world models move AI from the virtual world to the physical world.

“Once systems can understand and operate within the physical world, the range of what becomes possible expands dramatically — from robotics and autonomous systems to entirely new forms of commerce and live experience,” Leitersdorf said. “The most immediate test is what happens when you put it in front of a game designer, an advertiser or an engineer building a robot — and watch what they reach for.”

It was reported Thursday that investors expect Anthropic to pursue a valuation of at least $2 trillion in an October initial public offering, a level that would make it the largest stock-market debut in history.
